GI ROWING GUIDELINES FOR SUCCESS

Dear Parents,

Your support is important to the success of our program.  The sidelines we’re familiar with in other sports do not exist around the boat club or at regattas.  As we begin our racing season, I’ve compiled a list of guidelines that will help create a positive rowing environment for our team.  Thank you in advance for your continued support of Grosse Ile High School Rowing and for helping our student-athletes work towards achieving their goals.

  1. You can watch your child row from along the shore during practices.  Avoid the docks, blacktop and WBC facilities when picking rowers up or dropping them off before practice.  It is our goal to provide a safe environment and that requires knowing everyone who is on the WBC property.

  1. The WBC parking lot is small and crowded during the season.  You can pick rowers up and drop them off on Pine Street.

  1. Regatta venues are an extension of Grosse Ile High School and the rowers are the responsibility of the coaching staff.

  1. Even when not racing, our rowers have a responsibility to the team and are under the direction of the coaching staff.

  1. Respect the time that coaches and rowers need to prepare for and meet after races.

  1. Rowers and coaches are busy at regattas and must balance several responsibilities at a given time.

  1. Parents work closely with the coaches to ensure that the selection in the food tent is healthy and appropriate.  Help our rowers abide by the nutritional guidelines the coaches have established.

  1. Avoid staging areas and docks.  These areas are crowded and can be dangerous.  Keep a close eye on children and never step over equipment.

  1. Decisions made by regatta officials are not always clear and immediate.  Respect the officials and allow the coaches to follow regatta procedures concerning these decisions.

  1. Rowers will remain at the regatta site at all times unless arrangements have been made through the coaching staff and Grosse Ile High School (please see the Grosse Ile High School Athletic Handbook).  Arrangements to take your children home must be made in advance with a GIHS administrator.

Please contact me if you have any questions about the above or rowing in general.
