Head Coach Scott Sitek
Coach Scott Sitek began coaching at Grosse Ile in 1998. After working as an assistant and Boys’ Head Coach, he was named Head Coach in 2004. The program has continued to achieve success at all levels of scholastic rowing and during his tenure, oarsmen and women from Grosse Ile have earned approximately $2 million in collegiate athletic rowing scholarships.
Scott is a USRowing Level III certified coach who understands the importance of coaching education. He regularly attends coaching conferences and finds tremendous value in all of the resources available to coaches and rowers today. Through his work with the student-athletes of Grosse Ile High School, Scott emphasizes the numerous opportunities rowing presents including health and wellness, travel, education and competition.

Coach Laura Marshall has been coaching at Grosse Ile since 2013. She began her rowing career as a freshman at Grand Valley State University where she spent four years as a member of the Laker Navy (link). Racing locally and at championship regattas during her collegiate rowing career, Laura enjoyed traveling to cities like San Diego, Oklahoma City, Oak Ridge, Boston, Philadelphia and Henley-on-Thames in England. During that time she helped her teammates win gold medals in the Novice and Varsity 8+’s at the Dad Vail, two ACRA gold medals, one victory at the SIRA and a championship in the Collegiate 8+ at the Head of the Charles in 2009. Additionally, she served as GVSU’s club treasurer for two years.
After graduating from GVSU with a degree in mathematics(?), Laura coached the novice men and women at Rockford High School for one year and earned her USRowing Level 1 Coaching Certification. She rows and ergs independently, regularly competes in the GVSU Alumni 8+ at the Head of the Charles and continues to support her collegiate program by serving as a board member on the Grand Valley Rowing Alumni Association. She loves to coach and inspire student-athletes through sharing her passion of rowing, competition and self-improvement.
